Ownership

I recently finished a process that I've done now a few times in my life, and that is signing legal documents regarding personal property at a Title company. One of the main reasons for using a Title company is to verify legal and accurate ownership of whatever property is being sold, purchased, or any other directive having to do with the legality of ownership.

I found this particular appointment interesting because I have been reading Psalm 24 and was reminded of the first sentence about God's claim of ownership of His creation. "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for He founded it on the seas and established it on the waters." (Psalm 24: 1-2) If there was a cosmic Title company it would actually be a pretty easy business to run, because everything belongs to God. Period.

There is not a lot of wiggle room allowed in this Psalm, ". . . the earth is the Lord's, everything in it, the world, and all who live in it . . . " That pretty much covers everything that is on the earth. And then the Psalm continues with the verification of God's ownership by repeating the creation story as told in Genesis, "He founded it [the earth] on the seas and established it on the waters."

So if we believe that the Word of God is true, and I do, then we have to realize that Psalm 24 just instructed us that we have no legal ownership to our own lives, our families, our friends, our pets, our stuff, nothing! This is also backed up in several other passages of scripture but lets focus on 1 Corinthians 6:20 for a moment, "For you were bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body." This sentence, just like the sentence in Psalm 24 reduces our personal claims to our lives to dust.

Think about this for just a moment, I can't walk into your house and claim ownership of your stuff, or start directing your life decisions because I have no rulership and no legal right to do so. In other words, I have no title to your life, property, stuff, etc. But God says that we have no legal right to our own lives, we belong to Him. He owns us. He purchased us. All that we are and everything that we temporarily think we own, is His. It is a lie from the pit of hell that we can move through our days without acknowledging the rulership of Jesus Christ and His title on our lives.

Shifting gears for a moment, but this is one of the three reasons that God is allowing and orchestrating the seven years of tribulation in the end times. 1) To use increasing pressure to gain the attention of His creation in the process of allowing all who remain one last time to accept His offer of forgiveness and relationship with His Son, Jesus. 2) To shake up the nation of Israel and 3) To complete the final list of believers in the Book of Life. He loves us so much that He will wait till the last moment to unleash His judgement and wrath on a world that has turned its back on Him, the Creator and Owner of all the earth.

In closing I have talked to a lot of people about their stories related to becoming a follower of Christ. Some people relate that they had to be almost dragged, kicking and screaming, into a saving knowledge of their need for a Savior. I fall into this category as well. God allowed a tremendous amount of pressure, over a long period of time, to force me to realize my need for Jesus, and that I could not do life without Him. And when He fully got my attention, I gladly signed over the Title of my life to Him, my Creator. I don't own my own life. There is no process that I can go through to reclaim the Title of my life. The price paid for my Title is too great for me to even possibly lay claim to ownership ever again. I am His. And that is one decision that I'll never regret.
