The Komkom Vase

In AD 812, skilled craftsman delivered their masterpiece to the King. The vase, which was about nine inches tall with 202 hieroglyphic blocks, was painstakingly created for the most powerful man in Mayan culture. This vase would become the King's drinking vessel of choice, with no other human allowed to ever use it other than the King.

In April, 2019, 82 fragments of the Komkom Vase, named after the royal owner, were recently discovered in Belize. What was interesting (but sadly not a surprise) were the inscriptions on the vase. There was no mention of the economy, the weather, or anything about the common people the King ruled. For this King, like most people who weld great power, had no use for the mundane concerns of life.

Today in 2019 very little has changed. Those with power rarely see fit to look out for those without the same clout. Leaders are more interested in gathering power and in those who can help them retain it, rather then seeking the interests of those who can offer nothing in return. Around the globe we see this played out in country after country. From China to the United States, the common bond is the widening gap between the Haves and the Have Nots. Revolutions, both peaceful and violent, throughout history have sought to balance the scales but to no avail. Even in the United States we see a gap that is unprecedented in our country's economic history. The richest 1% in the U.S. now owns more additional income than the bottom 90%. In 2017 an Oxfom study found that eight of the richest people in the world (six of who are Americans) own as much combined wealth as half of the human race.

There will come a time, when this will no longer be the  norm. And we are not just talking about wealth. Jesus Christ, God Himself, will rule this earth and justice will finally reign. Justice for the weak as well as the poor. We will be ruled by our perfect God who will never make a mistake and knows everything. In Jesus we don't have to wonder about His concern for those less fortunate, His time on earth demonstrated the priority the downtrodden had in His life. As King of earth, He will no longer have to operate within the restraints of being human, He will ensure that all are cared for and that injustice will not be tolerated. It is a wonderful thing to read in the Bible how the most powerful God, who knows no limits, will finally be the savior that all people have longed for.

Soon, Jesus. Very soon.
