One Night

Woke up this morning, feeling older than I should
Fighting with emotions that are new to my soul
Painting a picture of you in my mind now
Just for fear of letting you go

We had it good, hoped it would last
I messed it up, deep in the past
I tried real hard, I'd try again
I couldn't know, I didn't mean

The problem with problems, you're never quite sure
Tough to see things that are close as they are
Life is placing so much faith on a thread
With a raging sea just under your feet

Repeat Chorus

Ignoring the signs I read in your eyes now
Hope is the last thing I can afford to lose
And now you tell me to move on with my life
What life is left to move onto?

Repeat Chorus

A moment changes forever
Though at the time it seems so far away
Everything is murky, cloudy, unclear
Everything except for today

You mark a lifetime on a moment
Clinging to that act like an anchor in the sea
I wish I could make it disappear
Drop it far away from you and me

But I did what I did
And you did what you should
Now we are no longer us
Heading to separate, different shores
