The Claws of Art

Most people would probably agree that music is a very unique art form. The mystery of music is the mystery of music. What other art form can impact you before you've even been born? For most people, music plays a huge part in their life. It can help you sleep, it can call you to play, it can drive you to dance, it can accelerate feelings of love, it can gently form emotions you never realized you possessed. How is that possible? How can music have such a direct link to our hearts and minds? What is it about music that can transform our lives?

Sometimes I've wondered why God didn't flag music with a warning label. I mean, you don't just turn someone lose with explosives and say "Show me what you can create with 40 lbs of TNT." Yet music can be far more impactful in forming opinions, even movements that can change the world. Where is the training class for artists that show them the implications of music on the mind, the heart, and the soul? Where is the preparation and care for how to handle something that possesses both light and darkness? That not only impacts the world, but can radically change you. How do you teach the importance of guarding your heart and mind through what you hear?

How can you explain that pure art is a implanted connection between hearts? Can you teach the wisdom that if passion and skill are coupled together with vision that worlds can be changed? Then why do we allow others to dictate what art we are allowed to digest? Why do we move with the masses instead of dancing to our own rhythm's? Can we agree that culture is greatly swayed by the music we listen to? You can measure the age and the culture by the songs that they were singing.

Story telling is words set to music that can be the engine that sparks change. Music with true passion can push us into action and force us to re-evaluate our motives, kicking us into the street to exhibit courage we never possessed before, sharing our experiences because it changed the way we feel, and molding our hearts in ways we could never have dreamed. What we choose to meditate on has a profound effect on our thoughts. It will influence us for days, maybe years after we initially heard the song. Everything should be weighed in how it either blesses or can destroy our thoughts and hearts.

Music can and has toppled governments, wrecked families, destroyed dreams, and severed minds from truth. So it's important to judge what you are allowing inside our heads and hearts. That is our responsibility! The Bible tells us to make sure we are careful about what we allow in our hearts and minds.

So enjoy music, create music to transform this world.  Music that challenged your beliefs, and more importantly gave you a vision for your life that you hadn't even dreamed of. Music that flipped the light of change upon your life. Music that brought about positive change in how you worked, how you played, maybe even changed how you viewed yourself. Music that might have even saved your life. Music that mattered. Music with claws.
